Great Britain
The official name of the country we usually call England or Great Britain is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the UK). It is situated on the British Isles. The total area of the country is over 244,000 square kilometres, its population is about 60 million people.
The UK is made up of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each part has its own traditions, national emblems and state symbols.

The Beatles
Made up of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the Beatles were just ordinary lads from Liverpool. And they didn’t become famous overnight, as many people think. They worked hard to be successful.
From their first single, “Love Me Do”, in 1962, people recognized something different in their music than the usual pop songs at the time. Their songs seemed more tuneful, more exciting.

Australia
Australia is the world’s biggest island and the smallest continent at the same time. It is situated to the south of Asia, between the Pacific and the Indian Oceans. It has the 6th largest area in the world (after Russia, Canada, China, the USA and Brazil). More than 20 million people live there (of about 200 different nations).
The official name of the country is the Commonwealth of Australia.

William Shakespeare
In the history of Great Britain there are a lot of famous names – Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill, Conan Doyle, John Lennon, Queen Elizabeth II, Christopher Wren, Admiral Nelson and others. I’m going to speak about William Shakespeare.
William Shakespeare, the great English poet and playwright, was born in 1564 in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon.

The United States of America
The United States of America is called by several different names: the USA, the United States, the US, the States, America. The official name first appeared in the Declaration of Independence of 1776, when the country was called « the thirteen united States of America».
The USA is the fourth largest country in the world (after Russia, Canada and China).
